As part of the “Civil Society for Energy Transition” project, implemented by the Belgrade Open School with the support of the British Embassy, Negawatt was engaged to prepare a lecture on the importance of gender equality in the energy transition and to participate in the forum “Gender Equality in the Energy Transition – From the Perspective of Women,” organized by the Elektropionir Energy Cooperative. Negawatt believes that the impact of climate change is not gender-neutral but deepens the growing inequality between the sexes worldwide. Lack of resources often limits women’s ability to adapt and recover from disasters that are direct consequences of climate change, as almost half of the world’s female population does not have access to insurance or insurance company services. Additionally, women have very little presence in governing bodies at local or national levels, which puts them in a position where their interests are often neglected. With its participation in this project, Negawatt contributed to a just energy transition, which we strongly advocate for.
